2. Regardless of
whether you liked or disliked a project, which one did you learn, grow, or developed
the most from? Please explain.
I learned a lot completing the anamorphosis drawing. I thought it was really interesting how art can create illusions. I loved how it could make a two-dimensional drawings look three-dimensional. I learned how to work photo shop during this assignment which was beneficial for any future art assignments or school projects. I think this one also taught me how important it was to follow directions, because if I didn't do one step or follow through with another the final piece would not work. I developed into a more cautious artist from this project because I realized that to make a great piece I had to follow the instructions as well as doing my best because without both of those skills the assignment wouldn't reach my full potential. This piece also had perspective which I hadn't really worked on before. I learned a lot working with the scale to reach the right perspective. Overall I actually really liked this piece because of what it taught me and the final look of it.
5. Choose a piece of artwork
where the subject matter reflects you as an artist; one that you have a
personal connection to. Please explain your choice.
To be honest I think this piece of artwork is defiantly not my best. I didn't complete the stencil very well and it would've looked a lot more clean if I did so. However, the subject matter I used was very personal to me. My dad deployed this year to Afghanistan and I wanted to use this art class to make something for him when he came back. The picture I used for the stencil is an actual photo of my dad "planking" on a tank. I wanted the background to be very bright and the stencil to be spray painted dark to show contrast. I want my work as an artist to mean something to me, and that could lead to someone else maybe relating to it too. This assignment was one of my favorites because we got to work with spray paint. I love the smell and thought it was a great component to add to the overall piece.
4. Which project do
you feel was the least important in learning the concepts taught in this
course? Please explain.
I think the printing project was not very important. I really liked learning about texture and how much it can add to a piece. I like making my work look really realistic and texture helps it do so. I also really liked how my final piece of artwork ended up looking. Even with that being said I didn't really learn anything that really helped in my art assignments later on in the course. This was the first piece where movement was necessary and contrast really affected the outcome. I feel if we never did this project there wouldn't be much of a loss because I didn't learn anything beneficial. Also, the printmaking process was more of a hassle then anything. It took a lot of times to master it and even my best one wasn't all that great.
3. Choose 1 piece
of Art that you used skills and techniques learned from previous projects.
Discuss your growth as an artist and how you incorporated these skills and
techniques to create the piece.
I learned how to paint and mix colors during the landscape painting. I already knew how to use clay from a previous basic art class. The clay tile is one of my last pieces and there were many skills I had learned from previous assignments. Some being always follow instructions, do your best work, and TEXTURE!!!! One huge thing I really needed to add to this piece is texture. I wanted to make it as realistic as possible so that was one skill that has really changed my artwork in a good way. I also wanted the ears and leaves to show movement. I strategically placed the leaves in different positions and the ears differently to show movement. I also wanted to show contrast in a subtle way. Not like black and white against each other but the living things in the clay tile to be bright and show, life. The background I wanted to keep the colors a little quieter and blended the clouds with a little bit of the sky blue color.
1. Which project
was your favorite or most successful this semester? Please explain. The landscape painting was my favorite because if you painted something wrong or messed it up you could just repaint it over when it dried. Also, I painted it from a picture my dad took at Carolina Beach on the coast and I wanted to hang it in my beach house. I enjoyed mixing colors and experimenting hues of colors in contrast to shades to find the perfect color. I also think it was my most successful because it looked really realistic. I felt really proud accomplishing it and liked the movement in the waves and the different colors to show the how far back the ocean went. I used a great deal of perspective in this piece. I like the bottom of the piece because the sand didn't look flat it looked like it had some volume. Its also my favorite because there is something so calming about the beach and it just makes me relax by looking at it.
